The Brentwood Crews at the Regatta

Boys Jr. B 8+: GOLD

Dan Thompson, Dan Bester, Spencer Crowley, Seb Kallos, Cam Gilham, Simon Woods, Jacob Robinson, Kelen Elp, Jason Pasnak

An impressive display of talent with this crew. They took control of the race early and won by 10 seconds at the end of the race.

Boys Jr.B 4+: GOLD

Andrew Gottlieb

Sebastian Kallos, Cam Gilham, Simon Woods, Spencer Crowley

Another impressive performance by this enormously talented crew.  They raced the field hard and won their final with grace and respect for all crews in the competition. These five athletes have 3 gold medals from the regatta — a substantial achievement!

Boys Jr.B Novice 4+: GOLD

Andrew Gottlieb, Luke McLellan, Ollie Greenberg, Liam Harrison, Geoff Friedricks

This crew’s first race was the novice 4x+.  They did not have an enjoyable race here, despite winning a silver medal!  They much preferred sweep rowing.  Once they only had one oar in front of them, this crew had an excellent qualifying heat, and demonstrated their skill and fitness, winning gold in this event.

Boys Jr.B Novice 8+: GOLD

Andrew Gottlieb,  Ollie Greenberg, Luke McLellan, Geoff Friedricks, Liam Harrison, Jacob Robinson, Dan Munsell, Jason Pasnak, Nick Hsu

Continuing a tradition, this crew raced a gutsy race from stroke seat down to the bowman.  They are a crew that has managed to come together and realise their true potential when they work together as a crew.  They raced this straight final with determination and technical skill.

Boys Jr. A JV 8+: GOLD

Dan Thompson, Dan Bester, Spencer Crowley, Seb Kallos, Cam Gilham, Simon Woods, Jacob Robinson, Kelen Elp, Jason Pasnak

This crew raced against other Jr. B crews and demonstrated that their hard-work, talent and technical achievements make them a crew worth reckoning. The Jr. A JV race, however, was a true test of what this crew was made of.  It was a four boat race from the word go.  These guys fought hard amongst crews of older boys for the entire race, and put it all out there in the last 300m and won by a boat length, to achieve a first in Brentwood history: a Jr. B boat winning gold in a Jr. Acategory.  Truly a great accomplishment.

Boys Jr. B 4x+: Did not advance

Andrew Gottlieb, Mark Stephen

Wells Greeno-McNeil, Brenden Hodgson, Derek Kozel

These guys had two substantial rows over the weekend, and it was a tribute to their hard-work and great attitude that they had some unforgettable experiences! Unfortunately, they were a crew who suffered from the weather.  Again, their winning spirit deserves a gold medal!

Boys Jr.B Novice 4x+: Silver

Andrew Gottlieb, Luke McLellan, Ollie Greenberg, Liam Harrison, Geoff Friedricks

This crew tried to put some good strokes together, and managed to complete a solid race against some excellent competition. In the end, they had two solid races, where they raced very well demonstrating their skill and fitness.

Boys Jr.B Lwt 4+: Did not advance

Dan Thompson, Sean Ferguson, Andrew Meyer, Dylan Wood, Kelen Epp

Tough heat and little down time between the races did not allow this crew to perform to their full potential. Fourth by the smallest of margins shows us that there is speed to be found in this crew.

Boys Jr.B Novice 4x+: Did not advance

Dan Thompson, Derek Kozel, Dan Munsell, Mark A—N, Cooper Bockus

The sea was angry that day, my friends!  This crew braved the waters, and just reaching the shore was victory enough for them.  Kudos for their great attitude and winning spirit!

Sarah Bell, Annabelle Glass, Kelly Heeringa, Jessie Helfrich, Lindsay Rinning, Seghan MacDonald, Alex Prieur, Sarah Williams, Sarah Rosen

Incredible finish. There were five crews vying for the final two positions. Their time of 5:52 was one second faster than the fourth place crew.

Girls Jr.A Novice 8+: Did not advance

Hanako Okano, Amanda Munsell, Alex Prieur, Seghan MacDonald, Kristine Friesen, Natasha Zadra, Gillian Hunter, Abby Rosen, Jess Kosa

This crew has not rowed that many times together and came up against some very stiff competition from the American crews.

Senior Girls Jr.A 63 kg 4+: Bronze

Gigi McQueen, Kiri Bleecker, Sarah Laird and fellow lightweight Sarah Rosen combined with

Excellent race and the results were very positive for these girls.

Girls Jr. A 4

Rinning and Sarah Rosen.

This crew came from behind to win in a close race by 2 seconds

Boys Jr.A Jv4X+: Did not advance

David Summers: Tom Holland Ben Higgs Mike Mains Pat Johnston

This crew raced in the semi-final only to find out that there was a conflict for the Jr. A lightweight eight. The Brentwood crew came second in the semi-final.

Boys School 8+: Bronze

Chris Turyk: Ambrose Carr Noah McColl, Joni Toews Joshua Hollenberg, Geordie Hayhoe, Adam Erickson,  Adam Bensted,  Elliot Wiechula

This crew went into the race as one of the favourites. Exciting race for the first 1000 meters then the wheels fell off and the crew finished with the Bronze medal

Boys Jr. A 8+: 6th in the Grand final

Chris: Ambrose Noah Joni Joshua Geordie Adam Adam Elliott

Racing in the Junior A race gave the crew an opportunity to place themselves against the best in the Pacific Northwest. An excellent placing in the final put them in lane 1 for the final. In the final, the crew had a fantastic race narrowly losing to Shawnigan Lake School by 1.9 seconds for the 5th spot.

Boys Jr.A JV 4+: Did not advance

Warren Lewis,  Jeff  Ulmer, Ross Gilmour, Tyler Dietrich,  Graham Gilbert

Johannes Buschling was injured the day before the regatta so Ross Gilmour moved in. Equipment problems during the course of the race prevented the crew from advancing to the final.

Boys Jr. A Ltwt4+: Did not advance

David Summers: Max King, Charles Angle,  Mike Mains Pat Johnston

The final was the heat and the top four boats had four of the top six times for the event. Placing 4th in the heat meant that the crew did not advance to the Grand final.

Boys Jr. A 1X: Did not advance

Adam Bensted

Adam raced gallantly but did not make it through to the final.

Boys AJv2X: GOLD

Tom Holland Ben Higgs

The two rugby players made a decision in December to focus on rugby and row recreationally. Their goal was to win a medal in the JV double at the Brentwood Regatta. Making it to the final in lane 1, the crew was able to see what the rest of the field was doing. With a tremendous sprint the crew was able to get a one length lead before cruising to victory

Boys A2X: Silver

Noah McColl,  Ambrose Carr

This was the only event where there were heats, semi finals and then at the end of the day on Sunday, the Grand final. In the hunt for the entire race. Was close to the St.Georges double only to lose out on the last push to the line.

Boys Jr. A Nov 4+: Did not advance

Warren Lewis,  Jeff  Ulmer, Ross Gilmour, Tyler Dietrich,  Graham Gilbert

The crew tried very hard to get into the top three only to lose out in the final 250 meters

Boys Jr. A Nov 4+: Gold

Chris Turyk: Joni Toews Joshua Hollenberg, Adam Erickson, Elliot Wiechula

Winning their heat by a large margin, the crew cruised to victory in the final by close to 10 seconds.

Boys Sr. Lwt 8+ Final: Bronze

David Summers: Max King, Dan Bester Pat Johnston,  Mike Mains,  Dylan Wood Charles, Angle,  Jason Pasnak Kelen Epp

Always an exciting race for the crowd. This year was no exception. The crew performed according to plan and stole the bronze medal from Mt.Baker in the last 250 meters. The Jr. B Boys were excited about this race, and that certainly came through in their performance. They raced hard amid some tough crews. Their commitment to this composite crew of Jr and Sr rowers allowed them to put forth a very strong race!

What an amazing event! I want to thank all the parent volunteers for their continued support of the regatta and helping stage this magnificent event. The competition was fierce yet the final results from our club are the best in five years.
