The names of the Honours students in Grades 8-11 and the Honours Graduates in Grade 12 are printed at the end of this programme. Honours Students are those holding an average of 84% before final examinations in the current school year. These students received their Academic Colours pins at ceremonies held earlier in the year. A further review of student averages will take place when all the final examinations are marked, and further awards will be made as appropriate, with pins awarded in September.
B.C. GOVERNMENT’S
‘PASSPORT TO EDUCATION’
We await the results of our final examinations before we announce the awards from the B.C. Government’s PASSPORT TO EDUCATION programme. Under this scheme, students can earn monetary credits to help offset the cost of post-secondary education. The BC Provincial Government has changed the criteria for this award scheme for the 2004-2005 academic school year. Awards in Grades 11 and 12 are made to the top 30% of ‘qualifying students’ (those who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents). Awards are no longer given in Grade 9, and the number of Grade 10 awards has been significantly reduced. In Grade 10, only 9 of our students will receive an award because of the reduction in the provincial programme.
As in the past the awards are
based on 70% Academic, 10% Artistic, 10% Athletic, and a 10% Citizenship
contribution. Students may already carry awards from previous years. When
we have completed our work for this year, we will be awarding: $250 to each of
nine Grade 10s, $225 to each of twenty Grade 11s, and $275 to each of eighteen
Grade 12s. Notification to these winning candidates will be sent in July.
