THIS WEEK

If you are a regular visitor to these pages, then thank you for your patience in the period that the site has been "off the air" as we have attempted to improve the general format of the data available. A number of sections are still incomplete, but are progressing rapidly.

THIS WEEK will be updated on a regular basis to give news of current happenings around the campus and for  announcements regarding future events. Please refer to the CALENDAR for scheduled dates in Academics, Fine Arts, and Sports, and all holiday dates. Other sections will be added as the year progresses.

Details are now available regarding the Thanksgiving Weekend beginning Saturday 10th October, the Fine Arts Work in Progress Evening on Wednesday 28th October, and  Parent-Teacher Meetings on the 6th, 20th, and 21st November.

Over the past week, Lance Bean has compiled a magnificent tribute to the Old Brentonians of 1923-1947 in the form of an exhibition of memorabilia from the original school. The exhibition, featuring artifacts and period pieces will be on diplay in the foyer of the main academic building until Saturday, 3rd October. All friends of the school are welcome to view the collection.

The images below show the exhibition in the early stages of construction:

On Saturday 26th September, approximately 30 Old Brentonians from the years 1923-1947 attended a special reunion hosted by the school. Highlight of the evening was a dinner attended by members of the present school, faculty, and our visitors.
Megan Boyar (Grade 12) welcomed the gathering with a touching address, giving details of her own family involvement with the school -- Tam Boyar (97), Anna Boyar (Grade 9) -- then entertained the guests with a cello recital. The keynote address: "In The Founders' Footsteps" was delivered by  Mr. N. R. B. Prowse, and Mr. W. T. Ross solicited ideas for the future of the school. The guests were then invited to reminisce with anecdotes of the school. Many of the stories evoked pleasant memories, the highlight being the appearance of an antique brandy sniffer and the story behind it as remembered by Dr. Frank Smith.

A few of the many guests are shown below:

Gordon Holland (Class of '43)
and Peter Birch-Jones (Class of '43)
David Lapeyrousse (graduating in 2000) and Cedric Walker (graduated in 1923)
Major T. Jamieson Quirk (Class of '28) and
Dr. Frank Smith (Class of '27)
Two generations of Brentonians meet: Dougal MacDowall (graduating in 2001) and Grandfather Fergus MacDowall (Class of '42)
