LIFER'S DINNER

The lifers are a small group of students that began their career at Brentwood in 1995. By enrolling in grade 8 and "surviving" five continuous years at the school, these students were hosted at a special dinner -- a Brentwood tradition -- at the Quamichan Inn on Friday evening. Their hosts were the Brentwood staff who have been part of their lives in this period. Many reminiscences, stories of joy,  apprehension, success, and tears, flowed freely throughout the evening. Each lifer was the subject of a short speech by a sponsoring teacher, and was the recipient of a small momento from the school. The photograph at the right was taken on the grounds of the Quamichan Inn, and can be compared with the photograph below taken from the Brentonian Yearbook of 1995-96.

Jonathan Rhodes ranked in the top 5% of students in Canada who wrote the Chem 12 NEWS Research examination in Chemistry in May. Jonathan received a certificate and a t-shirt from the University of Waterloo. This is a remarkable achievement for a Grade 11 student.

BIOLOGY 11 FIELD TRIP

One of the Biology 11 classes used the Hardie (Brentwood's Coast Guard Auxiliary zodiac) for a trip to the San Juan Islands last week. The trip was to enhance the current topic of study -- vertebrates -- with the group hoping to observe one of the killer whale pods that inhabit the area. In this they were unsuccessful, but had the pleasure of seeing numerous dolphins and other smaller marine life.
Lunch was taken on one of the smaller Islands with a fascinating cliff and cave structure as can be seen in the photograph.

GROUP PHOTOS

Wednesday of last week was photograph day, where all groups in the school posed for their formal pictorial record. Groups were assembled by Houses, student organization, staff, and every possible combination thereof.
Sports groups, too, were included. Not all images make it to the final printing stage as can be seen from the two examples below.

ISA GOLF

On Monday 5th June 2000, Brentwood College School were proud to host the I.S.A. Invitational Golf Tournament, at Cowichan Golf & Country Club. The event was attended by Brentwood College School, Glenlyon Norfolk School (who had the luxury of bringing caddies for each player),

W. T. Ross (caddy) and
David Bellringer
(pro)

Shawnigan Lake School, and St. Michael's University School.

The field was split into five foursomes, containing one player from each school. The format for the tournament was stroke play, with the best four of five scores from each team counting. There were also competitions for closest to the pin and long drive.

For the most part the weather stayed clear for the afternoon, with only the occasional rain shower. The wind freshened toward the end of the round, making for an interesting initiation to playing the 18th hole after the addition of the driving range net.

The final standing were:

Team
1 Brentwood College School 322
2 Shawnigan Lake School 348
3 St. Michael's University School 355
Individual:
1 Huxley Johnson (BCS) 75
2 Dustin Yeager (BCS) 79
3 Omar Mawjee (SLS) 82
Thanks to all the coaches who made the day possible, and who competed as well (Miles Allkins, John Garvey, Sandy Dreaver, Lew Fraser, Jay Connelly, and John McIntyre).
